PETWood Conducts GEDSI Community Survey to Strengthen Inclusive Waste Management Planning

As part of PETWood’s ongoing commitment to Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), the team recently conducted a community survey in the Onnut 14 Rai area to better understand the challenges, roles, and opportunities of local waste workers—particularly women, youth, and elderly recyclers.

The survey aimed to identify:

  • Existing barriers to participation in waste collection and recycling
  • Economic and social challenges faced by marginalized groups
  • Opportunities to enhance safety, training, and fair income generation

Over 50 community members participated, sharing their experiences and ideas for improving the recycling system. Early findings revealed that most waste collectors are women over 40 years old, often facing time poverty, health risks, and lack of stable income. Youth participants expressed interest in learning new recycling and upcycling skills, while older participants emphasized the need for safer and better-organized collection spaces.

These insights will guide PETWood’s GEDSI Action Plan, including:

  • Designing an inclusive Recycle Learning Center with accessible facilities
  • Providing skills development programs for women and youth
  • Ensuring fair purchasing prices for orphan plastics
  • Creating a safer, more organized working environment for all

“Listening to the community is our first step toward sustainable impact. GEDSI isn’t just a policy—it’s about giving everyone a voice in Thailand’s circular future,”
said Jakarin Sirikulthorn, Founder of PETWood.

The GEDSI survey marks an important milestone in PETWood’s mission to turn plastic waste into opportunity—empowering communities, promoting equality, and advancing the circular economy in Thailand.
